The plans of the alderman have been widely criticized. This is apparent, among other things, from the hundreds of objections, referred to in professional terms as an ‘opinion’, that have since been submitted. Opposition parties EenUtrecht, VVD, Volt, CDA, Party for the Animals, PVV and Utrecht Solidair support the residents. They submitted a motion requesting alderman Van Hooijdonk to make room for an alternative. Submitter Gert Dijkstra: “The petition and the views in response to the plans for the Weerdsingel show that many local residents want a different plan for the Weerdsingel.” According to him, the residents actively contribute ideas and come up with workable alternatives.
