Angela Merkel solves a murder case as a pensioner

What is Angela Merkel doing in her retirement after almost two decades as chancellor? Based on this question, best-selling author David Safier (Jesus loves me) wrote the crime novel Miss Merkel – A Uckermark Crime. Today, RTL is broadcasting the film adaptation of the book as a premiere. This article explains the plot, broadcast dates and background of the film.

When and where is Miss Merkel on TV?

You can Miss Merkel in the Free TV on RTL look or stream. There is initially only one TV date and no repetition.

What is Miss Merkel about?

The former chancellor (Katharina Thalbach) has retired to a small town in the Uckermark, far away from the hustle and bustle of Berlin’s government district, with her husband Joachim and their pug Helmut in Miss Merkel – A Uckermark thriller for retirement. But the tranquil country life soon becomes boring for her, she longs too much for new challenges. When Baron Philip von Baugenwitz is found murdered in his castle dungeon, which is locked from the inside, her spirits return. While the police suspect a suicide, Miss Merkel begins to investigate.

The title alone is reminiscent of the crime classic Miss Marple by Agatha Christie, the series has been filmed several times. But David Safier is also likely to have used a lot of the charm of sprightly pensioner crime novels like Murder is her hobby. (Here is the complete cast of Miss Merkel)

What is Miss Merkel’s book template?

The book for the film was released in 2021. Just one year later, Safier published the sequel Miss Merkel: Murder in the Cemetery. Whether RTL will also film part 2 depends on its success. Incidentally, in the series of novels, Angela Merkel’s dog is not called Helmut, but Putin.
