Anders Blomquist’s big criticism of Calle Halfvarsson – clear demand ahead of the big WC season: “Now I hope to…”

Calle Halfvarsson has had a hard winter behind him.
Now Anders Blomquist gives his honest assessment of the star.
– Too much pole out, too much tangle, says the SVT expert.

It had been another messy winter for Calle Halfvarsson. The star in his best moments can threaten the very best in the world, and it is not unusual for him to be in the fight for podium places a couple of times each season. But otherwise, the theme with Halfvarsson is very bad luck.

The criticism against Calle

The veteran is coming off yet another season where he was forced to sit out and withdraw from competitions due to injuries or illness, and it has been his best individual fourth place during the season. Recently, he was unsure if there will even be a continuation, and he has been openly critical of how little money he, and other riders, receive in compensation if you are not involved and fighting for top places.

When Anders Blomquist rates all Swedish cross-country skiers this winter, he only gives Halfvarsson a second out of five, which would have been the best. And the criticism is harsh.

– In a few races he has shown his fantastic potential. Really, really good. But looking at the season as a whole… no. He can do more than this, says Blomquist.

“Hope he gets to show it”

Calle Halfvarsson was forced to sit out several competitions during the last World Cup weekends of the season, and in general it has been messy. He has been sick several times, and not getting his body right.

– There is too much pole out, too much tangle. Calle can do more, says Blomman.

Calle Halfvarsson has been open that he is hesitating about a continuation, even though it is an upcoming WC year, also in Trondheim, Norway. Blomquist now makes a clear call to Halfvarsson.

– I hope, if he chooses to bet against the WC, that he gets to show it next year. Because he can be, on the right day, the world’s best skier, he says.
