An unknown famous sculptor is honored with his first solo

René van Seumeren made many monumental sculptures for public spaces and churches. Over time, he increasingly made smaller sculptures that were increasingly more about people than about faith. He often had back pain and therefore had increasing difficulty carving large statues. He started working with wax more often and then had the statues cast in bronze. And he made many portraits, sometimes commissioned, but mainly of his children. Trudeke: “I love his portraits. I recognize all of my sisters, they are completely in it. That can be the determined and yet also super sensitive. Then I think, how wonderful of him how he managed to capture that. And I am really, very impressed by the Marian altar, by the sweet and tender representations on those panels. If you say, he is a human sculptor, then I see that reflected in that. But I certainly also love it very much. of the image I have at home, of that girl with Down syndrome. I actually like all his work.”
