While the preliminary investigation opened against Norman Thavaud accelerated on Monday January 5, with his custody, a kitty was opened for one of his accusers.
The Norman Thavaud affair is probably only in its infancy. The young videographer was heard for two days by investigators from the minors protection brigade, Monday December 5 and Tuesday December 6, before being released without any prosecution at this stage. But the investigations are continuing and the file is consistent, with an accusation of corruption of a minor, at the center of the interrogations this week, but also 5 accusations of rape. On the first count, the identity of the complainant was quickly made public: she is a Quebecer, called Maggie Desmarais.
This young woman, who accuses the videographer of having abused her position to extract sexual images from her, embarked on a legal process which led the French judiciary to solicit her in France. This is why a kitty has been opened on the Gofundme site. This kitty appears to have been opened by Maggie Desmarais herself. “My name is Maggie Desmarais, I am 22 years old and I am currently involved in the criminal proceedings against Norman Thavaud. On July 8, 2020, I denounced him on Instagram during the #metoo wave in Quebec. On July 14, 2020, I filed a complaint”, can we read in the long message which justifies the opening of this kitty.
“Since the beginning of this story, I have always said that I did not want any financial compensation, but the reality to change. I have to travel between Quebec and France, pay for air transport, food, accommodation and car travel while continuing to pay for my apartment in Montreal. In addition, I have to take time off from work to be in France, which means that I have no income for several weeks”, can we read in this text which further specifies: “I had to travel for the confrontation during his custody and the legal stages to come, but now all my savings are exhausted”.
