An ax-wielding 41-year-old was shot in the leg by the police – now the man is being charged

It was on Wednesday, April 3, that several police patrols were called to an address in the southern Gotland countryside to take care of the heavily intoxicated 41-year-old who threatened to harm both himself and other people.

The police negotiator got in touch with the man by phone, but despite a long conversation, the 41-year-old decided to get into a car and try to leave the scene. However, he did not get very far, and the police were able to stop the car with the help of a mat of nails.

The man was armed with an ax which was swung at the officers and the patrol failed to neutralize him using both pepper spray and stun guns. In the end, one of the policemen shot the man in the leg, who was then overpowered.

The 41-year-old admits the course of events, but denies any crime.
