An ADC in LoL is even stronger in lane after the latest patch

Since the latest patch (14.8) in League of Legends, Draven is apparently even more hated than usual. MeinMMO tells you what’s behind it.

Draven is known for quickly dominating the bot lane. Already in the early game he does enormous damage with his Q (Whirling Axe). His Q is basically just a boosted auto-attack that you can’t dodge as an opposing ADC (except Nilah) – like Caitlyn’s Q, for example.

He can catch his Q (the thrown axe) again to automatically prepare a new “Spinning Axe”. He can have two Whirling Axes at the same time. Draven has received a buff to his Q from Riot Games.

This is what the buff from his Q (Spinning Axe) does:

  • Bonus Normal Damage: From 40/45/50/55/60 (+75/85/95/105/115% bonus attack damage) to 45/50/55/60/65 (+75/85/95/105/115 % additional attack damage)

Why was he buffed? The reason for this is stated on the official LoL website: We want to give Draven back the ability to lane bully. Draven apparently doesn’t have enough strength to take control of the lane in the early stages of the game. Riot Games wanted to give Draven the ability to play aggressively in lane again, so they buffed his Q.

This could be one of the reasons why he is one of the most banned champions. Even before the patch he was banned a lot, but with the buff he seems to be reaching the top now.

According to u.gg, starting at Emerald+ he has a ban rate of at least 26.9%, which increases with each higher rank. At the Grandmaster and Challenger ranks he is banned almost every other game (ban rate of 51%). In gold he is also in the top 4 with 15.1%.

The players obviously don’t want to play against Draven in lane at all.

    I just hate him

Why is it? On Reddit it becomes clear that this high ban rate is not necessarily due to Draven’s strength in the current meta, but also because players simply hate Draven.

We have summarized a few comments for you:

  • One writes: He’s one of the champions you ban just to keep him out of the game. He still has a super toxic player base, so if they dodge it’s a bonus [Champ-Select]. […]
  • Dragonatis writes: […] As others say, he’s just toxic and not fun to play against.
  • Another writes: His base damage is just crazy. In terms of base damage alone, it already surpasses most ADCs. […]
  • The top comment on the Reddit thread about Draven is: I don’t even know if he’s any good right now. I just hate him. It seems that his playing style and skills frustrate many players. His ability to quickly dominate games and his aggressive demeanor make him a formidable opponent, especially when he falls into the hands of an experienced player.

Strong snowball potential and lots of damage

With his passive he collects stacks when he catches his Q, destroys a tower, kills minions or monsters. The higher the stacks, the more additional gold he receives when he kills an enemy champion. The stacks are depleted once he kills someone. If Draven himself dies, he loses stacks. This allows him to gain an advantage, even more so if he is already dominating.

He has enormous snowball potential, plus a portion of movement speed and a small knockback (CC), which means he can also interrupt skills – overall a strong overall package.

Now you are asked: What do you all mean? Does Draven annoy you? Or maybe you have another champion who is your personal nemesis? Feel free to write it to us in the comments.
