The referendum rules
People can indicate whether they are for or against the municipality’s plans. But the referendum is not immediately valid. This requires a certain number of votes. It is only valid if at least 25 percent of eligible voters vote against (i.e. ‘no’) the plan.
It is an advisory referendum. This means that the municipal council is not obliged to adopt the outcome. The results are probably expected on Friday. The council will discuss the policy plan further on Tuesday, then the council will discuss its validity.
