Amersfoort polar bear is banned from urinating at night: ‘It was so loud that it woke up residents’

Amersfoort polar bear is banned from urinating at night It

Funny image, but serious message

The image is laughed at, but the idea behind it is certainly serious. Florentijn Hofman, the artist who became famous for his gigantic rubber ducks, made the work for the Flehite museum with climate change in mind. Museum director Paul explains: “This image tells in a nutshell what our world is about. About melting ice caps, nature that suffers, polar bears whose living environment is getting smaller and smaller.”

The fact that the bear starts to urinate every so often fits in with this. “This polar bear has chosen to show his displeasure. That’s why he pees so hard in our canal. Just as bastardly as we sometimes treat nature.”
