(Finance) – “By the end of 2024 we will launch deliveries with the new Mk30 drone in Italy and the United Kingdom”. This is the important news announced by vice president of Prime Air, David Carbonon the occasion of the event Amazon ‘Delivering the Future’ in Seattle. Adding that the goal set by Amazon is to deliver 500 million products worldwide by the end of the decade, using drones. The program refers to packages that do not exceed 2.26 kg, from basic necessities to hi-tech products, as well as customers with certain requirements.
The program Prime Air is already active in California and Texas from December 2022 in homes less than 6 km away from a logistics site and with deliveries within 60 minutes. Today it was announced that deliveries will also include another US state, condominiums and pharmaceutical products.
The new drone that will be used in Italy, MK30, allows you to double the range of action to 12 km and “operates safely and autonomously, using sophisticated sense-and-avoid technology, at the forefront of the sector, which helps drones to detect and avoid obstacles, ensuring the safety of people, animals and properties”, explains Amazon. It is also designed to handle unexpected situations and make decisions safely, is quieter than previous models and able to fly even in light rain and adverse weather conditions.
“When we started the program Amazon Prime delivery, was considered revolutionary. Getting packages to people where they needed them, in just a few days, was exciting and new at the same time. Since then, we have developed new technologies and supported investments in our logistics network”, commented the CEO of Amazon Italia Logistica, Lorenzo Barbo, explaining that they are working with the competent authorities for drone deliveries. The long-term outlook is densely populated suburban areas, not city centers, and a 30-minute delivery time. Amazon will map the territory and customers will be able to see if their area is covered by the service. At the beginning, in Italy, delivery with drones will be free and possible only in villas with gardens but the technology already allows it to reach condominiums too.
