The men’s 50 km race in Holmenkollen was expected in advance from the Norwegian show. Vuonomaa’s superiority still startled, however.

All the top ten athletes were Norwegian. The best non-Norwegian was a British skier who reached 11th place Andrew Musgrave.

Sports expert Ville Nousiainen reminded of the dark realism during the race. Missing from the race was Sweden, who won bronze in the 50 kilometers of the World Championships a week ago William Poromaa.

– If we’re being honest, among the current skiers, I only see William Poromaa as someone who could challenge. It can still be the Norwegians’ top four, even if Poromaa is at the top.

The free 50 km race was won by the winner of two individual championships at the World Championships in Planica Simen Hegstad Krüger. The win is Krüger’s first at Holmenkollen.

It was the second of the race Hans Christer Holundwhich broke up the leading group at about 30 kilometers. Johannes Kläbo tried to follow Holund’s pull, but quickly fell off the ride.

Krüger and the 22-year-old left out of the World Cup team Iver Tildheim Andersen joined Holund’s company. The trio changed skis at the beginning of the third round.

Andersen later quit the group. Martin Løwstrøm Hymns made a strong finish and moved past Andersen for third.

The only Finn in the competition Juuso Tossavainen was the 27th He lost to the winner by more than six minutes.
