Almost 2.5 hour fantasy epic by Steven Spielberg, with which he is still not happy to this day

Almost 25 hour fantasy epic by Steven Spielberg with which

Steven Spielberg has been in the cinema since the 1970s, trying his hand at the different genres out of. Science fiction, adventure and action: his filmography also includes musicals, comedies and horror films. There is hardly a genre that he does not bring to life with incomparable images.

In the fantasy realm, however, Spielberg fell in 1991 to its limits. He is still not satisfied with the Peter Pan sequel Hook, as he has indicated several times in recent years. The film starring Robin Williams, Julia Roberts and Dustin Hoffman is still worth seeing.

  • Today on TV: Hook airs tonight at 8:15 p.m. on ZDFneo. The repeat will follow on Monday at 6:05 p.m. Alternatively, you can currently stream the film on Netflix and WOW at the flat rate.
  • Steven Spielberg’s fantasy adventure, Hook tells the next chapter in the life of Peter Pan

Unlike many other Peter Pan stories, Hook takes place many years after the first voyage to Neverland. Peter (Robin Williams) has turned his back on the fantastic world. He is a father, husband and lawyer. The adventures of his childhood become more and more blurred in hazy memories.

The nasty Captain Hook (Dustin Hoffman) is all the more rankled by the events of that time. Last but not least, he lost his hand fighting the boy. A hungry crocodile grabbed them and ate them. Now Hook seeks revenge and kidnaps Peter’s children, prompting Peter to return to Neverland.

Thematically, Hook is made for Spielberg. Adults and children are drawn into an emotional story where Imagination and fantasy put to the test become. However, he is only partially happy with the finished film. As Den of Geek notes, Spielberg said the following about Hook in 2018:

I felt like a fish out of water at Hook. I had no faith in the script, just the first act and the epilogue, but not the rest of the film. I didn’t know exactly what I was doing and tried to cover up my insecurities with production values. The more uncertain I became, the bigger and more colorful the sets became.

As critical as Spielberg is of his own work, Hook has found many fans over the years. Last but not least, he is waiting with one of the best performances by Robin Williams who perfectly fits the role of adult Peter Pan.
