(Finance) – Alessandro Benetton received the award which “Global Advocate of the Year 2023” by UNCAthe Association of Correspondents to the United Nations, in recognition of its “dedication and leadership in promoting sustainable policies as President of Edizione SpA, one of the main European industrial holding companies”.
The award was presented to Alessandro Benetton by the Secretary of the United Nations Antonio Guterreswhich he remarked the commitment of the Italian entrepreneurfrom 2022 at the top of Edizione, in promoting the culture of ESG principles of the UN within a broad portfolio of businesses it employs over 70 thousand people and which ranges throughout the world from mobility infrastructure with Mundys al food retail (Avolta), from‘clothing (United Colors), atagricultureto the digitaltaking up the challenge of a development that does not generate inequalities, but is equally distributed between women and men and between generations.
An acknowledgment tostrategic approach that Alessandro Benetton has developed over the years applying the teachings received at Harvard from Michael Porter in the activities of 21Investa European investment group he founded in 1992, with which he then joined, as the first private equity company in the world, the Shared Value Initiative. A path of constant commitment that has seen him use sustainability as an integral part of the value creation process by investing, again with 21Invest, in companies that have grown and become competitive by improving the economic and social conditions of the communities in which they operate.
The prize also enhances the introduction of a new sustainable business culture in Edizionethrough initiatives carried out by companies such as Mundysan infrastructure parent company that aims to halve its emissions by 2030, to eliminate them at the latest by 2040.
