After the double murder – safety zone introduced in Norrköping

The police are now announcing that from Wednesday they will introduce a safety zone in the Hageby district in Norrköping – for the first time in the country.
The message comes the day after one
suspected double murder occurred in a residence in the same district.
– The law has been valid for about a month, but it is only now that we are seeing it for the first time in Sweden. And that’s because gang crime has been a huge problem in Norrköping, says TV4’s crime reporter Therese Cedergren.

As of Wednesday, the police are introducing a security zone in Hageby in Norrköping, a message that comes after two men were shot to death in the same district during the night to Monday, which TV4 Nyheterna previously reported on.

A man in his 20s was arrested shortly after the incident and is now under arrest for two counts of murder. The police announced in connection with the investigation that they are looking at connections to previous cases and ongoing gang conflicts.

“Huge problem”

The purpose of the security zone that is now being introduced is to increase security in the area and make it more difficult for criminals to prepare and carry out violent crimes, the police write on their website.

– The law has been valid for about a month, but it is only now that we are seeing it for the first time in Sweden. And that’s because gang crime has been a huge problem in Norrköping with explosions and shootings, says TV4’s crime reporter Therese Cedergren.

Exposed state part

The police will be more present in the area and do more preventive checks, which can be noticed by those who move in the area, the police write.

“Hageby in Norrköping has for a long period been a place with several serious violent crimes. After two people were found murdered in a residence in front of the police now a so-called safety zone,” writes the police.

Already on Monday, the police in Norrköping confirmed to TV4 Nyheterna that Hageby has been a vulnerable neighborhood when it comes to violent crime, for a long period.
