High school student Angelica Nylund from Morö Backe in Skellefteå barely visited the recreation center during her high school years because of the pandemic.
– It was sad that we didn’t have a place where everyone could be, she says.
Nationally, the number of visits to the leisure centers fell sharply in the country during the pandemic shows one questionnaire survey as the Authority for Youth and Civil Society Affairs did in 2021.
Even in Skellefteå, the leisure centers closed – but if the young people have found their way back, it is still difficult to see the statistics. The system that counts the visits is being replaced.
– But we continue to make contacts, encourage and come up with new ideas to attract them back, says leisure farm director Helene Hedström.
