After escaping from Sis home in Bärby in Uppsala: Changed rental car

The 20-year-old was on a walk with staff from Sis home Bärby when he escaped just before 1pm on Sunday.

He then managed to run from the scene and was shortly afterwards picked up by a car with at least two people in it.

The police launched a major operation and involved several regions in the hunt for the vehicle that they had received a description of.

– We are still looking for him and he is still wanted, says Tobias Ahlén-Svalbro, police spokesperson.

Rented at gas station

Later on Sunday afternoon, it emerged that the getaway car was rented from a gas station in Hässelby in northwestern Stockholm, according to information to TV4 Nyheterna.

When the police went to the grocery store, it turned out that one of the suspected perpetrators had recently returned the chased car and instead rented a new one from the same company.

– They changed the rental car and now the police are looking for the new one in which they continued their escape, says a source to TV4 Nyheterna.

At the same time, the police seized the first getaway car for further investigation, according to the same information.

Shooting hours after the car change

The wanted 20-year-old is linked to a criminal network in northwest Stockholm which is said to have a large capital of violence. According to information given to TV4 Nyheterna, he has also been one of the police’s priorities in a targeted gang operation in the capital.

The young man has previously been charged, along with several others from the same network, with murder after a man was recklessly shot dead in the open street. However, he was acquitted of the suspicions, but has previously been convicted of two cases of minor drug offences. Recently, he was also convicted of an assault in a Sis home after hitting another inmate. The punishment was youth care.

For some time now, the 20-year-old has been taken into care according to the LVU, the Act on care of young people. During his time at the youth homes, he has been involved in several incidents. The social service has also made the assessment that he has a high tendency to escape and in his previous accommodation there have been “indications of attempts to escape”.

Police concern

In connection with Sunday’s escape, the police internally have a concern that it may have been linked to a contract killing or that he will take on the task of carrying out a serious violent crime. This is because, among other things, recently there have been and prevented crimes where young people who have run away from Sis or HVB homes are suspected.

The police are investigating, among other things, whether there are connections to a shooting in Sätra in southern Stockholm on Sunday evening, which took place hours after the perpetrators changed their rental car. However, the investigators have not yet found any concrete connections.
