After debate about fireworks: Chief in Kramfors wants to see silent fireworks

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

In Örnsköldsvik, a planned fireworks display in the inner harbor was stopped last week after threats and protests. Even in SVT’s chat about fireworks, opinions were aired for and against the New Year’s tradition.

In Kramfors, fireworks and pyrotechnics are prohibited closer than 200 meters from nursing homes, nursing homes, care facilities, riding schools and the Dannero race track. However, it is free to launch rockets at any time of the day.

– If you regulate the time, you have to find a way to follow up the regulation and that is primarily a police matter. The police’s resources on New Year’s Eve are probably needed for other things, says Per Levin who is technical manager at Kramfors municipality.

Small window of time in Ånge

In Ånge, on the other hand, you may only use fireworks and other pyrotechnics in public places between 11:00 p.m. and 1:00 a.m. on New Year’s Eve.

– We trust people’s judgment and urge people to be considerate of other people and animals and to be careful. We have had this rule for at least 6 years and people have probably learned what applies. We are also careful to inform about the rules in social media and on the municipality’s website, says municipal manager Mattias Robertsson Bly.

Silent fireworks

Pyrotechnics are developing and now there are fireworks that are called silent – but give the same visual effect. They still make noise but not as much as traditional fireworks.

– It’s significantly less disturbing when it’s not banging, but it’s still just as beautiful. It would be interesting to reward silent fireworks at the expense of those that make noise, says Per Levin.
