(Finance) – A further step has been added to make the passenger experience at the airport increasingly faster and safer. From today, at theGB Pastine airport Of Ciampinoyou can use i gates electronic (and gates), until now intended for passport control, with only the Italian identity card, as long as it is electronic, valid for travel abroad and issued after 7 February 2018.

This possibility, valid for passengers in possession of Italian citizenship and over 14 years of age, will be extended in a few days to Leonardo da Vinci Airport in Fiumicino, thus making the capital’s airports the first in Italy to introduce this innovation which incorporates the provisions of the Ministry of the Interior Department of Public Security which has recently authorized the use of electronic gates also for CIE holders for following destinations: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Georgia, Ireland, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia, Turkey, Egypt (only organized trips for tourism purposes) and Tunisia (only organized trips for tourism purposes ).

As regards the countries not listed, nothing changes and therefore remains necessary for the transition to Border through the electronic gates, the electronic passport issued by the Police Headquarters.

Every year in the airports of Rome airports over 50% of passengers of all nationalities use the electronic gates (e-gates) for passport control with a notable reduction in control times, a number which brings the two airports of Fiumicino and Ciampino to the top of European airports in terms of use and functionality of e-gates.
