Hollywood star Bruce Willis had to give up his career due to dementia. While some of his films have certainly increased in the admiration of fans as a result, Tears of the Sun now has a dubious reputation. On the set of the war film that is showing on TV today, Willis suffered a potentially serious injury.

Tears of the Sun revolves around a team of elite soldiers under Lieutenant Waters (Willis), who take on US citizen Dr. Lena Fiore Kendricks (Monica Bellucci) from the turmoil of a Nigerian civil war.

The war film disappointed at the box office (via The Numbers) and failed with critics, who particularly criticized a weak script (via Metacritic). About a year after its release, the film returned to the newspapers because Willis sued the producers: When pyrotechnics detonated on set, a projectile had apparently hit him in the head (via The Guardian).

What sounds very worrying in itself may have had tragic long-term consequences. According to British tabloid The Sun, relatives are pulling one Connection between the injury and his dementia into consideration.
