A warning came from the professor Sleeping with the light

Yalova University Vice Rector and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Prof. Dr. Vefik Arıca said that a dark environment is needed for a healthy sleep.

Pointing out that sleeping with the light on at night prevents the secretion of the melatonin hormone, Prof. Dr. Arıca said, “Especially if we sleep with the light on in the room we sleep in, the light can pass through the eyelid and tire out the eye cells and brain cells. “It can prevent the secretion of the melatonin hormone, which gives us sleep, especially at night,” he said.

“WE SHOULD NOT SLEEP WITH THE LIGHTS ON”

Explaining that the lack of secretion of the melatonin hormone prevents healthy sleep, Arıca said, “When the melatonin hormone is secreted insufficiently, we wake up tired in the morning and wake up without getting enough sleep. We wake up frequently. We sleep tiredly and tastelessly. “For this reason, we should not sleep with the light on,” he said.

Arıca emphasized the importance of wearing an eye patch while sleeping and choosing dark-colored curtains in bedrooms and said, “Sleeping with the lights on can cause fatigue, especially in school-going children.”
