A “Sword Art Online” MMORPG is announced for Steam – That’s behind it

An MMORPG for all “SAO” fans and that on Steam. Exactly this dream is now coming true – even if there are a few stumbling blocks.

For years it has been a dream come true for anime fans and gamers alike. An MMORPG set in the world of Sword Art Online. Even if the “Full Dive” technology mentioned in the series seems to be a few years away, an MMORPG would be sufficient as a temporary solution. So far, however, there have mainly been single-player adventures in the SAO universe for the PC, which were intended more for story and JRPG fans.

But now a Sword Art Online MMORPG is coming to Steam – but there’s a catch.

What’s the catch? Sword Art Online: Integral Factor has existed since 2017 – namely as a mobile game. For many hardcore MMO fans, this should be a red rag. It is also not yet possible to foresee how good the implementation on the PC will be and how extensive the adaptation for the interface, which is currently only available in the mobile version, will be.

It may need some work to satisfy PC users as well, although the first screenshots are already looking good.

The well-known SAO heroes are there – but also a few new ones.

Sword Art Online: Integral Factor – What is this game?

Anyone who hasn’t yet closed the article in anger because it’s just “mobile stuff” again could be positively surprised by Integral Factor.

The game tells an alternative story of the first SAO season. That means you fight alongside Kirito and Asuna in Aincrad and try to escape from the game. You are one of the heroes yourself, a former beta tester, and accordingly have an advantage over many other characters.

The basic idea of the game is retained. To escape the game, you must defeat the final boss on level 100 – only then is it possible to “log out” from the game world.

The interface should be immediately familiar to SAO fans.

In addition to the story with many dialogues, the game relies on fights in the best anime look with great special effects and lots of numbers that pop up while you plow through the hordes of enemies.

You can also form guilds in order to defeat the most difficult bosses and get hold of the best equipment. However, the game should also rely heavily on grind, especially in the higher levels. So if you don’t show perseverance here – or throw real money at the problem – you will have a whole world busy.

When is the PC implementation coming? There is no release date yet, but it shouldn’t be very long. The Steam page for the game is already online.

After all: At least the story of “Sword Art Online: Integral Factor” is praised and should convey the feeling of the series very well and tell an interesting “what if” variant of the story.

In the worst case, a solid SAO story awaits you as a mobile game port. At best, a fully-fledged, if somewhat outdated, MMORPG in the SAO universe.

Will you check out Sword Art Online: Integral Factor? Or do you rule out a look from the start?
