With the KX-7000 series, Zhaoxin has introduced its new CPUs for consumers and gamers. And this processor looks really promising. The new processor can’t get past AMD and Intel yet, but it could still become an insider tip.
Who is behind the processor? The Chinese company Zhaoxin is behind the new CPU. The company was founded in 2013 when VIA Technologies merged with the Shanghai city government. Although VIA hasn’t been particularly relevant in the CPU space for a few years, the company is one of three companies with a license for the x86 architecture, along with Intel and AMD.
Processor offers many important features and is slightly behind AMD and Intel
What does the new processor offer? In any case, the new KX-7000 series CPUs are the fast models that have been manufactured in China so far. They come with a number of features that modern CPUs from AMD or Intel also offer, such as PCIe 4.0 interfaces, DDR5 memory support and USB4.
The new processors are said to represent a huge increase in performance, especially compared to the previous series (KX-6000). In some cases there is talk of an increase of between 20 and 30%. This is what our colleagues at TomsHardware.com are talking about.
What can the processor do? On paper, the new Chinese processors are behind the current processors from AMD and Intel: both the Ryzen 7 7700X and the Core i5-13600K both have significantly higher clock speeds than the top model KX-7000 and at the same time offer more threads per core.
On the other hand, the KX-7000 offers a number of features that can also be found in modern CPUs and sometimes even beats Intel and AMD: The KX-7000 models support just as much RAM as AMD’s current 7000 series and offer just as much PCIe lanes and even more lanes than Intel’s mid-range processor.
There is no PCIe 5.0 on the KX-7000, but that currently plays almost no role in gaming. At least the advantages of PCIe 5.0 are very manageable.
How much do the processors cost? Prices are not yet known. Sooner or later, however, the first prices are likely to appear either from the manufacturer, on AliExpress or other well-known trading sites. However, if the prices and performance are right in the end, the KX-7000 series could become a real insider tip.
Processor is important after US trade restrictions
Why is this development so important? The KX-7000 is a major step forward for China’s fledgling semiconductor industry as it seeks independence from Western technologies and sanctions, and it comes from the only Chinese company with an x86 manufacturing license.
After the US restricted the export of important technology to China, the release of the KX-7000 is even more important for China.
