A Finnish player in great shape in the NHL training games – still got a nasty invitation

A Finnish player in great shape in the NHL training

Roby Järventie, who belongs to the Ottawa Senators organization, was in a strong goal-scoring mood during the NHL training season. However, the Finnish player, who received praise from the head coach, has to start his season on the AHL side.

Part of the Ottawa Senators organization Roby Järventie was hot in the NHL practice games. The 21-year-old attacker scored four goals and five points in the training season.

Järventie was also responsible for the goal on the night between Saturday and Sunday, Finnish time, when he tapped the 3-3 equalizer into the Montreal Canadiens net. Montreal was better 6-4.

Three years ago in the second round, the big winger, who was reserved for the Senators, has not played an official game in the NHL. The last couple of seasons he played for the AHL club Belleville Senators. Last season, he scored 16 goals and 30 points in 40 regular season games.

Ottawa head coach DJ Smith praised Järventie after the Montreal match.

– He has really taken a step and shown that he can play and score at this level.

Shortly after this, however, Järventie received bad news, as Ottawa announced that they had sent Järventie, like many other players, to the AHL side Belleville. The NHL debut of the player born in 2002 will have to wait for now.

The strong grips of Järventie, who scored goals, in training games did not go unnoticed by the club’s fans. Many wondered on social media why Järventie is among the players sent to the farm.

Järventie played three seasons ago in the SM league in Tampere’s Ilves. He scored 25 points in 48 regular season games. He has been achieving bronze in the under-20 World Championships for the Young Lions in 2021 and silver in 2022.

Järventie’s father is a former hockey defenseman Martti Järventie. Robyn’s little brother three years younger Emil Järventie is also a talented hockey player.

Emil Järventie, who was reserved for the Pittsburgh Penguins last summer, is a potential name for next year’s under-20 World Cup.

Updated 10.51: Corrected that Järventie scored 25 points in the SM league three years ago, not a goal, as was reported earlier in the story.
