A 45 million dollar sci fi film is being released on

Maybe you caught a trailer earlier this year showing Adam Driver hunting dinosaurs with a blaster and wondered what this was all about. A futuristic Jurassic Park sequel? Or rather Adam Driver’s Star Wars character Kylo Ren gone astray in the Cretaceous period? The truth is much better: The sci-fi film 65 tells a completely original, epic story.

It opened in cinemas on March 9, 2023. As of today, 65 is available on Netflix as a flat rate. Is the movie worth it?

Fight for survival on dino planets: What is 65 about?

65 starts like a normal space thriller: Pilot Mills (Adam Driver) survives a devastating crash and finds himself on an alien planet. It is Earth, but 65 million years before our time. The wilderness appears correspondingly dangerous to him: for prehistoric creatures such as dinosaurs, he is nothing more than their next meal.

There is only one solution: Mills has to get out of here as quickly as possible. Together with the young second survivor, Koa (Ariana Greenblatt), he tries to find a way home. But danger in the unknown terrain lurks behind every tree.

And is 65 worth it? Unfortunately, the implementation lags behind its interesting concept. Overall, 65 remains too formulaic, even if the story becomes maximally epic, especially towards the end. If you like Jurassic Park and dinosaur thrills in general, you can’t go wrong with 65. At 93 minutes, the horror is quite short anyway.

More on the subject:

65 was lost in theaters despite Adam Driver and Barbie star

65 raised eyebrows in the industry because it told a fairly elaborate genre story with a top star in the lead role – but without any franchise connection. Something like this is now a rarity because it is very risky. Unfortunately, the risk didn’t pay off. In Germany, only 50,000 people bought a cinema ticket in the first week. In the second week 65 flew out of the top 10 again.

Adam Driver’s witch hunt grossed at least $60 million worldwide, which isn’t bad given a budget of $45 million. The film probably ended up in the loss zone anyway, because the production budget also includes costs such as marketing.

Adam Driver will be able to cope with the flop. This year he can be seen in Michael Mann’s biopic Ferrari. And his co-star Ariana Greenblatt probably no longer gives 65 a thought. She starred in the most successful film of the year: Barbie.
