On May 11, the association of renal patients Renaloo launched a double appeal for the protection of the most fragile patients against Covid-19. Yvanie Caillé took the floor to challenge both the general public about wearing a mask in transport, but also her pen to write to the various learned societies in order to alert them to the care of these patients.
A mask “which must continue to be worn by all”
Yvanie Caillé reacts first of all to the end of the wearing of the compulsory mask in transport from Monday, May 16, as announced yesterday by the Minister of Health Olivier Véran.
“The Minister of Health spoke of wearing a mask recommended for the most fragile, in transport. But we would have liked him to ask that it be for everyone” first explains the founder of Renaloo. “We know that the most fragile people, immunocompromised or transplanted, are not always up to date with their vaccination schedule against Covid-19. In particular due to the fact that it is necessary for them to have a medical prescription for vaccination before they can perform their injection.“.
A vaccine not sufficiently effective in some transplant recipients
According to the founder of Renaloo, vaccination does not work at all in 30% of transplant patients. Yvanie Caillé therefore fears for the health of all these patients, whose vaccines are less effective in general, to protect them very often. “We are not immune to the emergence of a new variant or the arrival of a new wave and this could be catastrophic for the most fragile, if they are not sufficiently protected.” she believes.

A call to learned societies
The second call from the founder of the patient association was written this time. “We contacted the learned societies through a letter so that they inform the doctors more. Indeed, we know from patients that some professionals, for lack of sufficient information, do not always follow patients’ requests. As with prophylactic treatments against Covid-19, which are functional antibodies directly injected into patients in order to protect them”.
Yvanie Caillé explains that only 20,000 people received it, while 100,000 patients would potentially be entitled to it. “We would be more reassured if all the recommendations issued about the most fragile would be respected, but this is unfortunately not the case.” she concludes.
