“I think that is always there,” says Anne-Meike van den Berg, spokesperson on behalf of Belle, an organization for (former) sex workers, about the worries in the neighborhood. People have a certain picture of sex work and what that can bring, she says. But sex workers also think it is very important to have a safe working environment without a nuisance, she emphasizes. “And customers often seek peace and discretion.” In practice, the nuisance often is not too bad, says Van den Berg.
