Residents of Raqqa hope for united Syria – but the violence worries

After years of civil war, Syria’s new power holders in Damascus have taken over a divided country. In Raqqa – IS former capital that has been under Kurdish control since 2017 – many of the residents now hope for a future within the new board.

“Syria will be governed by a single government and become a united country,” Mohammad told freelance journalist Lina Malars, who is in northeastern Syria.

Residents have for months feared that fighting between the Kurdish forces and the central government should break out. But a new agreement to reunite the Kurdish self -government with Damascus Inger Hope in the population.

– This agreement means peace and calm. And if God wants, everything will be good, says Salam.
