In Mayotte, the prefecture’s foreigners office has been closed since October. In the 101st French department, where almost half of the population is foreign, this closure has dramatic consequences for many people. Without being able to renew their papers, residents find themselves in an irregular situation and do not leave their homes for fear of being arrested by the border police.
