Fivoor patients write letter to residents after fatal stabbing: ‘I feel deep compassion’

Fivoor patients write letter to residents after fatal stabbing I

The full letter:

Dear residents of Den Dolder,

As a temporary guest in your community and a client at Fivoor, I would like to express my condolences following the tragic incident on January 2, 2025, in which a 76-year-old woman lost her life.

I understand this is causing a lot of anxiety and fear within your community. I am being treated for an addiction and have now completed almost a year of therapy. This period has significantly changed my outlook on life and helped me to better deal with challenges such as stress and responsibility.

I want to emphasize that even before I started my treatment, I would never have been capable of such an act. What happened is horrible and sad, and I feel deep sympathy for those involved.

It is painful to notice that some residents think that more Fivoor clients would be capable of such acts. I can assure you that I, and many with me, are working hard on our recovery and striving to make a positive contribution to society.

I support a thorough investigation into this incident to determine whether signals were missed and to prevent recurrence in the future. I hope my words can contribute to mutual understanding and reduce fear within your community. I, and I know many others, am just as shocked and saddened as you are.

Yours sincerely,

A concerned fellow resident and fellow group members
