Two people were shot dead at the beginning of the week in the countryside of northern Austria. Both were hunting leaders and one of them a mayor, named Franz Hofer. He was found dead in a meadow in Altenfelden, in the district of Rohrbach. The second person was found in the nearby town of Arnreit.
Since the murder, the police have been looking for a suspect, also a hunter. After an intensive search, police confirmed on Saturday that he had been found dead, in Upper Austria near the Czech border.
The man was found in a wooded area near his car. A weapon was found nearby. David Furtner, spokesperson for the police, tells the AP news agency that it is suspected that he took his own life.
The motive for the shooting death has not been determined, but according to Austrian media, the background is suspected to be a low-level conflict between hunters.
