CNN: Russia urged residents of its border regions to stop using dating apps | News in brief

Dating apps are feared to provide Ukrainians with useful intelligence.

The Russian authorities have urged the residents of their border areas to stop using dating apps and limit their activities on social media anyway, reports the news channel CNN. This is aimed at preventing Ukrainian forces from gathering intelligence as they advance in the Kursk region of Russia.

Russia’s Interior Ministry issued its plea on Tuesday, urging residents of the Bryansk, Kursk and Belgorod regions, as well as military and police personnel stationed there, to refrain from online dating services and to be careful when filming videos in strategically important locations.

– The enemy is actively using such resources to gather information, the ministry said on its official Telegram channel.
