The Moldovan breakaway region of Transnistria says that a so-called kamikaze drone attacked a radar station near the border with Ukraine, Russian state-controlled Tass news agency reports.
The radar station sustained minor damage but no one was injured, according to a dispatch from Transnistria’s security ministry.
The breakaway region of Transnistria has a Kremlin-loyal leadership that receives Russian financial support and has a Russian military presence.
At the end of February, the board asked Russia for “protection”.
After that, in mid-March, authorities said a drone attack on a military facility in the region’s capital Tiraspol was blamed on Ukraine.
Both Ukraine and Moldova, to which Transnistria belongs, rejected the accusations as a provocation, which Ukraine said was orchestrated by Russia.
Since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, observers have warned that Moscow may have similar plans for Transnistria.
