Russian President Vladimir Putin wins, as expected, the show-like presidential election. Other countries condemn the undemocratic elections.
Several countries have condemned the Russian presidential elections as undemocratic.
Incumbent president Vladimir Putin based on initial estimates, is winning the elections with almost 90 percent support.
Elections are not actually free and democratic. Putin’s victory was certain in advance, because no real counter-candidates were allowed for him.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi called Putin after the election victory a “power-hungry dictator” and the election an “imitation”.
– It is clear to everyone in the world that he is simply sick of power and will do everything in order to rule forever. There is no evil that he would not do to extend his power, Zelenskyi says in a video speech published on the messaging service Telegram.
The White House in the United States commented on the Russian show election, saying that the election was not free or fair, as Putin has imprisoned his opponents and prevented others from standing against him in the election.
In their statements, the German, British and Polish foreign ministries condemned the fact that Russia also organized votes in the occupied territories of Ukraine. The German Foreign Ministry says that the votes cast in Ukraine are not valid.
