The maternity ward at Lycksele hospital opens again. From February 19, staffing must be sufficient so that births can again be carried out in southern Lapland.
The maternity ward in Lycksele has been closed throughout 2023 due to staff shortages and pregnant women in the catchment area have instead been referred to Norrland University Hospital in Umeå or to Skellefteå hospital. But after intensive recruitment work, staffing should now be secured for the first half of the year.
“It feels incredibly good, all of us who work at childbirth and BB in Lycksele are so happy. We have worked hard to make this a reality and we feel positive about the future,” says department manager Ellinor Berglund in a press release.
Since January 22nd, the maternity ward has been staffed in Lycksele and on February 19th, the maternity ward opens fully. The agreement with rental staff that was signed applies throughout the spring, but no precise information about the summer can be given at the moment.
“The goal is to fully staff with our own staff and we feel that interest in our business has increased,” says Ellinor Berglund.
