In the end, the city council partly gets its way, there will be a larger supermarket. However, that will take years, because the university determines the pace. The environmental vision for the USP was established last year. This is achieved through intensive collaboration between the UMC Utrecht, the UU, the USP Foundation and the municipality. The original plans, which the alderman sent to the municipal council, do not include a large supermarket, and for good reason, the UU does not like it, says councilor Stam. The municipal council has demanded through an amendment that such a supermarket be included in the plans. Stam: “It ultimately took the environmental vision before things started to move. But that was only possible because we stood up for ourselves.”
