This is a figure that had never been calculated… It is now done thanks to a study carried out by Heroic Health, a mutual aid platform for the chronically ill. She estimates the monthly cost of endometriosis at 150 euros per month.
150 euros per month and 2022 women. These are the two striking figures that emerge from the study on endometriosis, conducted by the Heroic Health platform, which worked in collaboration with four associations on the subject. 2022 is the number of participants included in the study and 150 euros the monthly cost price of the disease.
Objective: to obtain ALD for endometriosis
“We wanted to estimate the cost of endometriosis for a woman, a figure which was not known until now because no study had been carried out on the subject” explains first of all Antoine Kalawski, communication and marketing manager at Heroic Santé. “We wanted to challenge the general public and the presidential candidates on the reality of this disease”.
A significant figure that would still be underestimated. “150 euros is already a very large sum. However, we did not include different costs, such as childcare costs or mileage costs in our study, as this would have complicated the calculations too much, but we know that this sum can easily be doubled to be closer to reality” adds Antoine Kalawski.
Hence the request for management of endometriosis in ALD 30, ie the list of 30 long-term conditions covered at 100%.
Financial brake and career brake
The study adds to the sum of 150 euros per month which corresponds to the remaining charge for patients, the sum of 40.70 euros for the cost of parallel therapies, intended to relieve their pain, such as yoga or acupuncture sessions. . A significant financial cost that cannot be assumed by all women, moreover one out of two participants in the study admits to having given up on treatment because of this.
And the pain, when it is unbearable, leads to absenteeism at work. It is estimated by the study at 31 days per year. “We are faced with an aberration because by treating these women, through ALD care, society would have more to gain by their contribution to work rather than letting them suffer” says Antoine Kalawski again.
