Jan Emanuel thinks that the current situation with escalating gang violence around the country is the politicians’ fault. At the same time, there is a relatively simple way to overcome the problems, he believes.
– It is even quite easy to see what you can do and what you should do, he says.
Robinson winner, former Member of Parliament and venture capitalist Jan Emanuel himself has a past as a member of gangs, a subject he returns to in a new memoir.
When the topic comes up in Nyhetsmorgon, he airs his views on the current situation, where violence has reached completely new heights.
– As it looks now with the herring milks we had as political leaders… This catastrophic situation we have in Sweden didn’t just appear, but it is because of politicians who more or less consciously swept their way to it this situation, he says, without mentioning anyone by name.
Furthermore, Jan Emanuel believes that the solution is out there, but that politicians turn a blind eye to it.
– There is always an opportunity to do something about what is happening in society. It is even quite easy to see what you can do and what you should do. It’s just that these cowardly politicians haven’t done it because they’ve thought more about their own careers than the future of the country and the people. It’s a shame, he says.
“Shall sit inside for a long time”
According to Jan Emanuel, a solution could be to combine harsher punishments with better follow-up, rather than focusing on one or the other.
– A kid who does two explosions and gets 10 months, that’s a joke. This should sit in long enough that there is no bunch when it comes out. He must sit inside long enough for his brain to grow together. But the focus must also be that once he gets out, he must be educated and enter society and do right by himself. You have to be able to have two thoughts in your head at the same time. Rehabilitation and reintegration, but also punishment.
