Frans Backhuijs received a medal of honor this afternoon at his farewell as mayor of Nieuwegein. The municipality wants to thank him with the award for ‘his unbridled efforts as mayor’. And so Backhuijs is now an honorary citizen of Nieuwegein. “I now know how to pin it on,” he joked.
