Tero Seppälä had his best performance of the season at the World Championships. Johannes Thingnes Bö made biathlon history.
The biathlon king of the moment Johannes Thingnes Bö had won all three individual races before the mass start. On Sunday, however, he had to admit the superiority of the tough Swedish duo.
Sebastian Samuelsson and Martin Ponsiluma certainly shot all the pucks down in the last vertical position, but Bö had to go to the penalty round. Bö started the last run from striking distance, but he could not match the Swedes’ fast skiing speed.
For Samuelsson, the championship was the first in the personal journeys of prestigious competitions. The 25-year-old relay Olympic champion also won three bronze medals in Oberhof.
The head coach Johannes Lukas dumbfounded by the performances of his protégés.
– Indescribable. Absolutely, absolutely crazy. We have said from the beginning that we are difficult to beat. We have two athletes who can beat him and they both beat him today, Lukas enthused Aftonbladet (you switch to another service)by.
Bö, who took the bronze, still continued his incredible streak. Bö, who won five golds, one silver and one bronze from Oberhof, is the first male biathlete to win seven medals at the World Championship level. Seven World Cup trips have been on the program since 2019.
Tero Seppälä achieved the second best Finnish ranking of the Games, being tenth in personal distances. Suvi Minkkinen was eighth in the women’s normal distance on Wednesday.
Seppälä, who has been in a great shooting mood lately, missed two shots on the layup and was outside the top 20.
However, the Finn, who shot flawlessly in two vertical positions, made a great climb and eventually finished tenth.
– I am very satisfied with vertical shooting. That investment was taken with them.
Without the passing shots, the real top spot would have been in the fork.
– Maybe there would have been no chance for a medal, but fourth place would have been beatable. It took 35 seconds, which Tero would have taken with zero, Urheilu’s expert Ville Kotikumpu evaluate.
What kind of taste did you get from the World Cup?
– Of course, I am satisfied that I was able to raise my level. I got here clearly my best performances of the season. Let’s continue here, Seppälä stated.
