Waterford Brantford residents among 100000 prize winners

Residents of Waterford and Brantford areas are among a group who will share a $100,000 lottery prize.

The 11 people matched six of seven Encore numbers in exact order in the Nov. 12 Lotto 6/49 draw.

“The group members were talking about the possibility of finally winning right before we checked the ticket,” Dale Biehn of Stoney Creek told officials at the OLG Prize Center in Toronto. “I checked the ticket at the store terminal and I was shocked to see we won $100,000.”

Other group members include: Andrew Smith of Waterford; Bradley Eldridge of Wilsonville; Robert Biehn of Vanessa; Bradley Biehn, Donald Biehn; Gary Biehn and Jason Biehn, all of Brantford; Dale Biehn of Stoney Creek; Allan Gunn of Grimsby; Jeffrey Slater of Dunnville; and Terrance Larose of Kirkland Lake.

It was a couple weeks later that Dale shared news of the win at a group meeting.

“They all thought I was going to give them some bad news – then I told them we won,” he said.

The group has been playing the lottery together since the 1990s.

“Everyone was so excited. We were high fiveving each other,” Bradley Biehn added. “It was a very exciting group meeting.”

Some members of the group will use the funds to pay off debt while others intend to save their portion.

“It feels awesome to say I’ve won the lottery,” Dale said.

The winning ticket was purchased at Petro Canada on Green Mountain Road in Stoney Creek.
