SWEDISH DOUBLE SUCCESS! Hanna Öberg wins GOLD and Linn Persson SILVER in the distance race in the WC

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

Sweden’s super success in the WC continues.
Hanna Öberg wins gold in the distance – and Linn Persson wins silver!

Before this year’s Biathlon World Cup, much of the talk was about Elvira Öberg. She has had a giant breakthrough in the last year, lined up fine performances in both the Olympics and the World Cup – and was second in the overall World Cup before the championship in Oberhof.

Swedish smash hit

But Öberg only managed to take part in the opening mixed relay and then the sprint before she fell ill. Öberg missed the start of the chase and did not start in the distance race on Wednesday either. But Sweden has already shown that it can go a long way even without the biggest star.

In the sprint, Hanna Öberg was second and Linn Persson – who had been a big exclamation mark all winter – came third. It was Linn Persson’s very first championship medal, and she also started the distance in an absolutely brilliant way. Linn Persson shot full in the first, second and third shooting – and suddenly settled for a WC gold. However, Linn Persson was not the only Swede who took part and fought for top positions.

Super drama about the gold

However, Linn Persson shot full even in the last shooting – and it was then clear that it would be a really high placement. Linn Persson has no individual victory in the World Cup ever – but now suddenly stormed towards another top result in the World Cup after hitting 20 out of 20 shots in the distance.

– She just runs as if it were a training session. I’m so damn impressed. She pushes the gold over and does that. It’s cruel, says shooting coach Jean-Marc Chabloz in SVT.

Hanna Öberg also had a super position for top position going into the last shoot – and she also shot full there. Hanna Öberg was second, only after Linn Persson, from the last shooting – and there was a Swedish drama about the gold and silver medals.

Linn Persson kept away from all the other riders, but not Hanna Öberg. Öberg quickly caught up with Persson, and crossed the finish line as clear first. It was thus a Swedish double at the top of the distance – with Hanna Öberg as gold medalist, and Linn Persson as silver.
