The men’s biathlon ended up outside the podium during Thursday’s sprint in Annecy, France.
It went better for the ladies – but it wasn’t the Öberg sisters who were running the show this time.
Anna Magnusson stood for a super bang and took home the victory ahead of Linn Persson, who also banged hard with a second place.
Biathlon has made it to French Annecy there Martin Ponsiluoma became the best Swede on the men’s side with a fourth place on Thursday, after partly rainy conditions. And on Friday it was the ladies’ turn to hit the French ski slopes.
Courageous for the sisters
Hanna Öberg was the first Swede to start, but the 27-year-old had to see himself shoot a bar on the first shot of two and thus collected a penalty round directly. For little sister Elvira Öberg, which started somewhat later, fared better. She shot full in the first shooting and thus took the lead.

Great Swedish success
But there are more Swedish women than the Öberg sisters. Both Anna Magnusson and Lynn Persson were each responsible for a super race where the first-mentioned shot full while Persson only incurred a penalty round. And after the last shooting, there was the chance for Anna Magnusson to a resounding victory, Magnusson who before today’s race had no individual podium in the World Cup and who had never been better than seventh in her career.

– What a final lap she does, it’s the fastest final lap of all. As we treat her this day, as long as she lasted. And so she gets this complete hit today. It’s clearly the best thing she’s done, what an achievement!, say the lyrical commentators Ola Branholm and Bjorn Ferry in SVT’s broadcast.
It was a super success for Linn Persson, who also stood for a great performance and finished second behind the sensational winner Anna Magnusson.
