During the World Cup in Qatar, Fifa threatened to punish players who took a stand against the controversies surrounding the championship.
Something that has now caused the Swedish skiing stars Frida Karlsson and Maja Dahlqvist to react.
– I think it’s completely insane, Dahlqvist says to Expressen.
It is unusual for the soccer World Cup to start at the same time as the Swedish skiers are in full swing with their season. But the football World Cup in Qatar is, as you know, a bit different – not least because of all the controversies that surround the championship.
No WC feeling among the Swedes
Frida Karlsson and Maja Dahlqvist doesn’t immediately experience any World Cup feeling where they are, in the middle of a snow-covered Ruka.
– I have no football World Cup feeling at all. It’s usually only sun and barbecue evenings when it’s the WC. It was a mistake of theirs to put it like this. So it’s boring, now it’s like Advent and skiing, says Frida Karlsson to Expressen.

Maja Dahlqvist fills in and agrees.
– I had forgotten it was the WC. It’s usually in the summer when you’re out grilling, now I’m in Ruka, she says.

“Had no riders left”
During the World Cup in Qatar, several heated debates flared up after Fifa threatened to punish players who took a stand by using the rainbow-colored captain’s armband with the message “One Love” – something that caused the nations that intended to use the armband to back down.
– I was told that, it’s absolutely insane, says Maja Dahlqvist.

Frida Karlsson agrees, while at the same time saying that if the same thing had happened in the skiing world, there would not have been any skiers left.
– The error lies in choosing to put the championship there from the start. It would never have worked. Then everyone would have braved it, and they wouldn’t have had any skaters left, she tells the newspaper.
– Farts are so small. Football is the whole world. If the whole of Sweden had boycotted, that ski competition would not be interesting, but it is possible to run without a team in football.
