In the week to September 2, 2022, the “claims” amounted to 222,000 units, down by 6,000 units compared to the previous week’s figure of 228,000 (revised by the preliminary 232,000). The figure is better than analysts’ expectations, which were for requests equal to 240 thousand units.
There average of the last four weeks – according to data from the US Department of Labor – it settled at 233,000 thousand units, down by 7,500 thousand units compared to the previous week’s figure of 240,500 (revised from the preliminary of 241,500). The four-week average is assumed to be a more accurate indicator of the health of the labor marketas it smooths out the sharp fluctuations observed weekly.
In the end, in the week to 27 Augustcontinuous requests for subsidies amounted to 1,473,000, an increase of 36,000 units compared to the 1,437,000 units of the previous week and against the 1,435,000 expected.
