The Genealogy Symposium, organized by Norfolk County Archives, is back.
After the inaugural event in 2019, the symposium was canceled the past two years because of the pandemic.
The second annual symposium will be held Sept. 17 from 11:30 am to 4:30 pm at the archives at Eva Brook Donly Museum, 109 Norfolk St. S., Simcoe.
Featured will be three guest speakers, Melanie McLennan, Jennifer Robertson and Fraiser Dunford, whose topics range from preservation to how to use municipal records.
The event also will include a book sale, refreshments and workshop with curator Emily Benedict on caring for family heirlooms.
“We want to let the audience know what resources we have available for folks to come and do their ancestry and genealogy searches,” said archives assistant Kathy Snively. “Then we’ll like them to learn that there are other ways to search, sometimes you come to a dead end but these speakers will offer tips and tricks and show them the other online resources”
Snively said that people get the chance to ask questions.
Tickets cost $20. They can be purchased at the archives from 10 am to 4 pm, Tuesday to Wednesday, or online on Eventbrite.ca.
Snively said the symposium is an opportunity for the archives to let the public know about its services.
“We’re a resource center for research,” she said.
She praying the work done by the archives’ volunteers.
“We have a great volunteer base,” she said. “So, if anyone is looking for an opportunity, there’s always work to do.”
