900 people from the Swedish defense have crossed the border into Finland to be under the command of the Finnish army chief. This is for the purpose of testing the joint operational planning in a scenario of a military attack.
– We must jointly be able to strengthen security in that part of the Nordic region, says Michael Claesson, the Swedish defense’s operations manager.
For five days, the Swedish and Finnish armed forces are conducting a joint exercise in northern Finland. Ultimately, the exercise is about testing the military cooperation between Finland and Sweden – which together hope to join NATO – and about preparing Swedish soldiers to defend Finland on Finnish soil.
