18 bags filled with narcotics have washed ashore in a bay in the Kattegatt in recent days.

The parts of the find that have been tested so far have tested positive for cocaine, according to Danish police.

In total, it concerns around 840 kilos of narcotics that were found in Sejerøbukten in western Zealand. A very extensive and startling find, states the police in Central and Western Zealand.

“We currently have no knowledge of where the narcotics come from, how long it has been in the water, or whether it was intended for recipients in Denmark at all,” the police state in a press release.

In addition to the bags, several loose packages of narcotics have been found.

The first find was made last Saturday, when private individuals walking along the beach on the Sjællands Odde peninsula spotted several apparently washed-up bags. Since then, similar bags have appeared in several places along the bay. According to the police, the sports bags were tied together with life jackets and some kind of lights.

Even on Monday afternoon, a black bag and several brown packages were scattered along a beach at Sejerø Bay, according to news agency Ritzau, images from the scene show.
