At the beginning of 2024, general practitioner Nanja Danhof was the alarm about the impending closure of the Kanaleneiland Health Center. More than a hundred care providers work in the Health Center on Bernadottelaan, including general practitioners, physiotherapists, dietitians and speech therapists. Danhof and her colleagues have been looking for a new place for more than a year, but find nothing.
A departure would mean that thousands of patients without a general practitioner. Not an option, according to Danhof. “Apart from the fact that GPs are also overcrowded in other neighborhoods, many people cannot go to another neighborhood at all because of their health.”
