Today, on International Women’s Day, the victims of the benefits affair are once again asking the government to speed up the resolution of the problems that arose after the hunt for benefits fraud intensified. Between 2004 and 2019, some 24,000 people were identified as benefit fraudsters. They had made mistakes when applying for childcare allowance or had been misinformed by childminder agencies or childcare centres. As a result, they had to repay all allowances received. With childcare allowance, this quickly amounts to thousands of euros.
