24 people, including several children, have been found dead in Boksburg near Johannesburg in South Africa after inhaling leaking gas. The accident is suspected to be linked to illegal mining activities in the area.

A spokesperson for the emergency services in Ekurhuleni tells SABC News they received a call just after 8pm about what was initially believed to be a gas explosion. Upon arrival found that it was in fact a leak from a gas cylinder in the illegal settlement.
